Major Houses Non-Vintages Dominate the UK Market

The 2012 Lanson Champagne Category Report (covering sales for 2011) shows that in the UK market that it’s the major brands non-vintage offerings that are the most popular purchases.

In terms of off-trade sales these top brands represents 62.7 per cent of the total market.  However, when it comes to market share (in terms of value), these figures represent a massive 94.4 per cent of the UK sales of all the major brands.

The ‘top 10’ list – including rises or falls of sales over the previous year – reads as follows:

  • Moet and Chandon : 34.4 million pounds of sales (-2.6% compared to 2010)
  • Lanson : 23.4 million pounds (7.6%)
  • Veuve Clicquot : 22.9 million pounds (1.7%)
  • Taittinger : 15.6 million pounds (-7.4%)
  • Piper Heidsieck : 12.6 million pounds (-1.7%)
  • Laurent Perrier : 11.4 million pounds (59.8%)
  • Bollinger : 10.25 million pounds (-2.8%)
  • Louis Roederer : 1.99 million pounds (-10.5%)
  • Perrier Jouët : 1.94 million pounds (39.2%)
  • Pol Roger : 1.92 million pounds (-5.2%)
